In 2017, 81 volunteers assisted 79 care receivers with 4,351 volunteer hours. The volunteer’s activities may include shopping, home visiting, transportation to doctor visits, assistance with mail and bills, light chores or respite for weary caregivers. Our care receivers are either a parishioner, or someone referred to us by Interfaith Caregivers because they live within our SGG neighborhood. We field phone calls from interested care receivers, have a group leader make an initial visit to determine the needed service and then match one of our volunteers to the receiver. We are a chapter of Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County and our volunteers receive their training and background checks through that agency. SGG Helping Hands is an outreach ministry to assist seniors and persons with disabilities with non-medical and non-personal care services so that they may remain in their homes and stay independent.
